About
Restorative Yoga is the one opportunity where we can genuinely give ourselves permission to fully relax. Each hour class will comprise of a small number of poses meaning that the body has time to sink into full relaxation before re-positioning once again. For the body to be able to relax fully we need to allow it time to switch into our parasympathetic nervous system. It is only when the body is in parasympathetic mode that it is able to carry out all the necessary healing tasks. With such hectic and stressful lives, we are in this mode less and less - even sleep can be fitful and no guarantee we can relax enough to enter into this mode. With conscious relaxation offered by a restorative yoga class we actually have the opportunity to reap the benefits of such an important phase for the body. Using props such as blankets, towels, yoga bolsters and blocks too if you have them (If not a couple of thick books and a thick rolled up blanket will do the job) we support every part of the body throughout the practice - no tension, just peace and rest. Absolute bliss!
